New Zealand College of Massage

Be part of the growing Massage Therapy Industry

About us

Background - Who are we?

Welcome to the New Zealand College of Massage (NZCM), New Zealand’s leading Massage Therapy Tertiary Provider. The NZCM was acquired by the New Zealand Institute of Sport in late 2011. NZCM is the only national provider of massage in New Zealand with sites in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. Our college was the first institution to offer a Degree in Massage & Neuromuscular Therapy in New Zealand and one of the few providers of a degree in Massage Therapy in the world.

Our Massage Therapy courses are designed to cover a wide range of skills and knowledge required for diverse careers in the Massage Therapy industry. We offer courses covering Sports Massage, where students learn the treatment of soft tissue, musculoskeletal dysfunction, and sporting injuries. The balance and integration of mind and hands is central to all of our courses, backed by our wonderful teaching staff.

The College draws upon a very large pool of top clinical therapists to provide current and relevant education. Dr. David Lillis & Dr. Simon Pumfrey and are two key staff members that help lead our academic team towards excellence. Our team commitment to excellence in teaching and an integrated approach to wellness, links with a successful combination of up-to-date evidence based practice, quality of touch, and attention to the therapeutic relationship.

Massage is a dynamic and growing health modality, both nationally and internationally. Research has verified the benefits of massage, sports massage, neuromuscular therapy, and other forms of hands-on therapies. More people are discussing massage with their doctors and other health care providers than ever before, and more healthcare professionals are recommending massage therapy as part of a patient’s overall health. We offer you the widest specialist range of clinical massage teachers in Australasia.

Our partnerships with key stakeholders like the Central Pulse, Saints Basketball, Oxfam NZ, Cancer Society NZ and the Wellington Phoenix franchises and organisations are just a few key relationships worth recognising as they allow student opportunities to learn by doing.

These can all act as a pathway to higher level qualifications and opportunities in the massage therapy, mobility and wellness industries.

With warm regards to you all from the New Zealand College of Massage.
