Programme Objectives

You will delve deeper into massage therapy, learning techniques that address injury and soft tissue dysfunction. With a focus on recovery, you will understand the importance of client assessment and developing treatment plans. 

This diploma can lead to many career opportunities aforementioned in Level 5, but also opens you to a wider clientele base, such as working with sports teams, chronic pain sufferers and being able to assess the everyday person and determine recovery and healing according to their individual needs.

Programme Overview

Clinical massage therapy is an holistic, hands-on approach designed to create the conditions that support the body’s return to optimal health and vitality.

With an emphasis on recovery from injury and other soft-tissue dysfunction, it lends itself to application within the broad spectrum of human physical performance activities.

The goal of this programme is to produce knowledgeable, skilled, and adaptable massage therapists who are capable of playing a significant role in the manual therapy industry.

Key components

Key components of the diploma include:

  • Biomedical, behavioural, educational, and social science bases of healthcare and their role in clinical massage therapy for a broad range of clients and conditions
  • Client assessment, clinical reasoning, treatment planning, implementation, and evaluation, to treat a variety of musculoskeletal and other system conditions
  • Research literacy and application of evidence-based learning to inform clinical judgements
  • Intervention strategies relevant to clinical massage professional clinic management through self-responsibility, communication, client service and business development knowledge and skills integration of learning from across the programme in the form of real world clinical practice within the supervised in-house clinic and a wide range of external placement opportunities

Entry Requirements

  • Be over 18 years of age, and have a:
  • Good level of physical and mental fitness
  • Completion of the NZCM Diploma in Wellness and Relaxation Massage Level 5

Students that do not meet the above criteria may still be considered upon personal interview.
