Massage for Cancer and Chronic Illness

A two day course with both theory and practical sessions to therapists the necessary knowledge, understanding and confidence to work with people at any stage of their cancer experience. 

Learning objectives:

  • To define cancer, its causes and how it is spread.
  • To gain understanding of the diagnostic process and what a patient may be experiencing. 
  • To be able to make suitable adaptations to standard massage techniques.
  • To be able to show empathy to a cancer patient, their friends and whanau. 
  • To learn scar management techniques suitable for cancer patients. 
  • Self-care while working in a difficult field. 

Presenter: Amanda Bell 


Amanda Bell graduated from NZCM at the end of 2009 with a Diploma in Massage and Clinical Sports Therapy. After moving to Napier in 2010, she set up her clinic: Napier City Massage Therapy. She has also gained additional qualifications in Oncology Massage and in the Dr Vodder Method of Combined Decongestive Therapy for the management of Lymphoedema. Combining this learning with personal experience, Amanda now shares her knowledge to give other massage therapists the confidence to bring comforting massage to people who are experiencing cancer or chronic illness.
